Meet the Tesla Cybercab

The Tesla Cybercab is a purpose-built, two-passenger autonomous electric vehicle that reimagines what personal transportation can be. With no steering wheel, no pedals, and butterfly doors that open automatically, it's a car built entirely around the passenger experience. Powered by Tesla's AI5 onboard computer and a vision-only Full Self-Driving (FSD) system, the Cybercab operates at SAE Level 4 autonomy — designed to perform the entire dynamic driving task without any human input. It runs across public roadways, parking lots, car washes, and charging stations at all times of day and in light to moderate precipitation. Calling a Cybercab is as simple as opening the Tesla app.

Autonomous Tech: Cybercab Robotaxi is equipped with Tesla's SAE Level 4 automated driving system: "When in Autonomous Mode, the vehicle is designed to be capable of performing the entire dynamic driving task without any input from a human driver." Opening a door or unbuckling a passenger's seat belt automatically causes the Robotaxi to disengage and park. The vehicle also recognizes clearly visible hand signals from first responders and can follow pathways designated by cones.

Safety: Cybercab includes at least 10 airbags: front, knee, inner seat-mounted side, outer seat-mounted side, and curtain airbags. An Active Hood raises during certain pedestrian impacts to reduce injuries. The interior door handles have two detents — the second detent acts as the emergency mechanical release. Two First Responder Loops are fitted for redundancy: one under the hood and one behind the passenger-side B-pillar. If the vehicle is in the roadway or a dangerous position, first responders can manually move it using on-board vehicle controls.

Robotaxi Operations: The Cybercab Robotaxi operational design domain covers all public roadways (freeways, highways, city streets, rural roads) as well as parking lots, charging stations, car washes, and parking garages, at all times of day and night, including light and moderate rain, fog, and snow. While waiting for a new ride, the Robotaxi roams its service area or proceeds to a charging station or parking lot. If the battery charge is too low, it goes to a charging station before accepting new bookings. If extreme weather is expected, it does not accept new rides; if caught unexpectedly, it pulls over at the nearest safe location and parks while Tesla Robotaxi Support is notified. If connectivity or hardware issues arise, hazard lights flash rapidly and the vehicle attempts to pull over at the nearest safe stopping location.
